WHAT IS LURE COURSING?

Lure Coursing

Lure coursing is a simulated hunt for sight hounds.  This sport evolved from open field coursing when it became less practical because city sprawl decreased the open land where it was safe to hunt.  Lure coursing is a sport that the whole family can enjoy while spending the day in the great outdoors with their hounds and people with similar interests.  An artificial lure is used in place of live game but the chase is still enjoyable to the hounds.

Hounds run in trios over courses and are judges on their merits of agility, endurance, enthusiasm, follow and speed.  Coursing titles can be earned.  The parent body is the American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA) founded in 1972.  ASFA is “dedicated to the common goal of preserving and further developing the natural beauty, grace, speed and coursing skill of the sighthound.”
